I would recommend buying a nice thermometer that shows min and max on it to keep an eye on the temperature. I would presume that 17oC is WAYYY too low for your little guy. I keep my hedgehog nice and cozy all the time at a pleasant 24 degrees (~75F) using an oil filled space heater.

Everytime that your little guy tries to hibernate.. he gets weaker and weaker.. I would seriously try to get a better setup to help your little fella stay alive..

Which area are you located? Might be able to put you in touch with a vet.

I know here in the Montreal area there are two excellent choices.
