I got my first hedgehog (Miiba) less than a week ago at a pet store. Unfortunately, going to a breeder wasn't an option. She is becoming quite acclimated and I am very impressed. However, I do have some concerns.
When I had her out today, I noticed that she was itching, and when she was, a large of amount of flaky skin was falling off of her. So my next step was to determine whether it was quilling, mites, or dry skin. I gave her an oatmeal bath and set up a humidifier. However, when examining her skin closer, I noticed something that I thought was odd. There is a spot where it looks as if she has a new quill growing in, but I'm concerned because the quill looks crooked, and the skin around it is red and black with some swelling. I will insert two pictures, both zoomed and not. Is this normal? This is my first hedgehog, so I'm not exactly sure what to expect. Also, would I be able to see the mites on her? She is albino, so I thought maybe they would be hard to see. If anyone has specific steps to determining what exactly she has, that would be so awesome.
-Thank you!
