|Harrythehedgie||Just wanted to update everyone. Turns out Harry did have a little bit of a respiratory infection but lucky we caught it early enough, he wont have a problem beating it. So, the anesthesia wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, they didn't put him fully under, only enough to make him groggy. She inspected him, looked at his teeth, trimmed his nails etc...He was pretty grumpy after but I think that was from the vet visit not the anesthesia, after an hour or so he was back to his normal self, such a relief! Thank you everyone for your help|

|Harrythehedgie||Thanks everyone for your help I called Harry's vet and she said there's nothing we need to do to prep him. I just hope he's okay once he wakes up.|

|teddythehedgie||My hedgehog was not thrilled with being given the gas and was sort of mad at me afterwards, but he came out of in under 60 seconds and felt totally fine hopefully your little one is okay. I am not thrilled with anesthetic either, but sometimes for their health it is necessary. I know your pain, Teddy loathes the vet!|

|Draenog||No I have never heard of any restrictions. Maybe you could ask your vet for more specific information? Not every vet might have the same method.|

|wushu1987||Yeah I don't think they would need to fully sedate.. He will be a bit groggy afterwards but that shouldn't last too long. Did your vet give you restrictions on how long to hold food for before you go in ?|

|Draenog||They usually just give a little bit of gas, they don't have to put them all the way under to examine them (just make them a little bit sleepier). At least that's how my vet does it.|

I suspect that my hedgehog has a respitory infection so I'm taking him to the vet early Friday morning. The vet says if she can't thoroughly examine Harry, she will have to put him under anesthesia, has anyone else experienced this?
I know it happens I just want to know what to expect after. It scares me because he's so little.
If it helps, he's about a year and a half old and a healthy weight.
