My hedgehog to not drink any water My hedgehog will never drink water. sometimes I put something to her mouth she used to drink it but she does not do that anymore and so I put a dish of water in there today it was all gone like all the water but I'm not sure she drank it or just like she spelt it because she is a very very very very very very very very very very very very very messy girl |

My hedgehog hates her wheel My hedgehog marzipan she never runs on her Wheel .I have no clue what to do. I've put her on her wheel and put a book over it but she just tries to get out. I've tried flower you know where you put the flower on the wheel and in the next morning if it's on the ground she doesn't do that. What should I do.! I am lik I have no clue what to do. But she does not do that she hates her wheel |

I hedgehog will not move I have a new hedgehog. And she just had surgery a couple weeks ago. She very rarely moves and I think that is a problem. Sometimes I find poop around the cage but that is very rare. And sometimes well most of the time there is no poop. What should I do !!!!! |

Hello everyone. I've taken Ponyo to the vet. A different vet then my first. We are treating for both ring worm and mites, just in case its either. Its been a week now since her first dose of revolution and twice daily doses of clavamox. Its another week to go with the Clavamox and the vet wants me to give her another dose of revolution next week, seeing as her skin is so flaky. She is STILL flakey and losing quills like crazy though. Does anyone know when this typically stops? She is definitely way less crusty then before. Poor thing.. I've been adding flax seed oil to her food quite a bit. One to help her skin, but also to help her do her poops. The Clavamox seems to make that a bit hard for her. I'm hoping it makes a difference in healing her damaged skin. |

Thank you for the feedback! I will try adding some oil to her food. Maybe it will help her skin get healthier. I managed to get her to relax today, and her quills do still look pretty good when she is not balled up. I would feel so much better if I would only see some quills growing back in. |

I can only speak from personal experience and there are definitely much more knowledgable people around here that could probably provide a better answer, but I guess any answer is better than none, right? I have never had a hedgehog who had mites, so I can't weigh in on that part. In the photos, her skin does look pretty dry and a bit yellow, however as far as quills go, that looks pretty normal to me. Her quills seem evenly spaced and I don't see any obvious patches where they are missing... usually when balled up, hedgies generally do have a tendency to have visible skin in between their quills, just because they are so thick unlike hairs which are super thin and therefore can be spaced closer together. For her dry skin, a lot of people use just regular oatmeal added to a bath. You can put it in a sock or pantyhose and swirl it in the bath water until it gets a bit cloudy, bathe her in it, and then don't rinse it off after. You could also try using an old toothbrush while in the bath to gently remove some of the dry skin flakes from her back. Just keep in mind that having baths too often in general can also make her skin dry. Also, it might be worth trying adding a couple drops of the oils to her food instead of directly on her skin, this will prevent the yellow oil buildup while still potentially helping with the dry skin. |

| blacktallon | I'm sorry to keep posting but If when anyone sees these pictures, if they could give me some feedback, I would really appreciate it. I've done some calling around today and though there's other small pet doctors around, they are more comfortable with me seeing a specialist seeing as the baytril does not seem to have fixed things. The only problem is that they are a bit over an hour away and I don't drive, so I would like to be armed with whatever information I can get my hands on before I try to make arrangements. I don't know if I want to take her back to the other place right now, seeing as they argued me about the Ivermectin, and they don't seem all that interested in finding out what is wrong with her. |

The vet also gave her a liver treat while she was there, but she mostly just anointed with that anyway. I'm not so sure its a food allergy. I'm honestly wondering if its not mites and the vets she has seen just aren't missing them. ps. Those pictures of her are balled up by the way. She was a fuss pot tonight so I could not get a good picture with her relaxed. |

ok.. so I cleaned her cage tonight and there were over 20 quills in her bedding.. Im feeling pretty distressed. I don't know how she isn't bald. I have changed her detergent to a non scented one as I mentioned before. I don't use shampoo on her because it made her flaky the first time I used it. Just a bit of olive oil of flax oil. I have dripped a little flax oil on her back this week, trying to help, so that's why the dry skin in these pictures might look a little yellow. For food, she is a picky eater. She wont eat mealies yet so she gets unsweetened apple sauce, carrot baby food, or the rare temptations beef cat treat. The cat treats only started when I was giving her the medication, which gave her insane poops and pees, so I didn't think mushy treats were a good idea. For kibbles she gets Royal Canin adult fit, a little bit of now fresh adult, and natural balance green pea and duck. She came on the royal canin, but I wanted more of a mix In her diet since she is so picky.
