Re: Temperature Question Thanks, Heather! I figured we'd just keep his CHE setup there year-round since it's on a thermostat anyway. I'll look around on the forums and see what else I can find re: ice packs and tiles for hot weather. The tile especially sounds like a good idea, and I think we've still got some sitting around after a flooring project last year. Since overheating isn't supposed to be as much of a problem ... anyone know offhand the high-end of the safe range of ambient cage temp for hedgehogs? |

![]() Being too warm is not as dangerous for hedgehogs as being too cold. You should change the water more often (probably at least twice a day) and I believe that ice packs on top of the cage have been recommended in the past. Also some people have suggested putting a ceramic tile in the cage so that the hedgehog has a cooler surface to splat on if they need to cool off. You are right that a fan creates too much draft for a hedgehog but having one in the room that is not pointed at the cage should be ok. Quote:

Re: Temperature Question I was wondering the same thing! We live in the south, and usually keep our A/C upwards of 80 or so during the summer in the day while we're all gone at work/school. Will be interested in seeing responses! |

Temperature Question Hi, I'm a new owner for a cute female hedgehog. I'm very aware of the temperature in her cage. We have a digital therm. with a little reptile heating pad placed on the side. During the winter there is no problem as my apartment building has the heat on all the time. She seems very active and content. However, we have a question about summertime. We don't have air conditioning and for the most part can live without it. We live in the city so in the summer the temp is quite nice but for about a month or two it will stay over 95 degrees F. My question is how can we keep her cool during this time? I thought about a small fan but I worry the draft may be too much. I also thought about putting cold ice packs on top of the cage to help cool it off. Thank You! |
