Re: Now we have a runny nose!

That is great! I am happy you took her to the vet, it will let you enjoy your holiday and not worry about your hedgie AND now you know you have a terrific and patient vet It is not easy to find a knowledgeable vet who is also willing to answer questions and not rush you. Plus, from what I have heard $40 is a really cheap appointment! Happy Holidays

Re: Now we have a runny nose!

Best $40 I ever spent! The vet gave her the all clear and told us that she was one of the most inquisitive hedgies he had come visit. Of course she did her best impression of a steam engine after a few minutes of being looked but she tolerated him well for a bit.

He gave me the signs to look for if she were to develop a URI and told me that if she started to look worse over the next few days, he would just give us a prescription, no second visit needed.

He spent 30 minutes patiently asking questions and letting all three of us (two kids and myself) ask question without making us feel rushed or as if we were a pain.

Best part? If we were to have an emergency, I already feel good about him so I won't be meeting him in a more panicked situation. Oh! And the hospital was gorgeous with a boarding "resort" attached if we ever need to leave her. They have had hedgies as guests before!

Re: Now we have a runny nose!

Thank you for your support. My kids are laughing at me because this is exactly how I fret over them when they are sick. They are ten and twelve so you think I'd be used to it, right?

Appointment is at 2, I'll update you after.

I really appreciate your input.

Re: Now we have a runny nose!

Good idea. You will spend a more relaxing Christmas if you take her to the vet.

Re: Now we have a runny nose!

Thank you. I think you are absolutely right, I am sure she is finr, but I can't stand it. With tomorrow being Christmas Eve and a big storm coming in on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, I think I would go insane with worry.

I will justify this trip as a chance to ask all my questions, have a well visit and get the little brat's nails clipped as an early Christmas present!

Re: Now we have a runny nose!

How long is your vet off over Christmas?

Bubbly nose is a concern but if it is only once and she is not showing other symptoms, I don't think she needs to see a vet quite yet. Wait and see what she is like tonight and in the morning. If no other symptoms and no more bubbly, she is probably fine but if she shows anything else, then take her tomorrow.

Re: Now we have a runny nose!

Maybe I am just obsessing. I went up and checked her again -- much to her dismay I am sure -- and her nose was wetter than normal but not runny. I have never woken her up in the am so maybe it was just a long night's sleep?

She sleeps on fleece. Her belly and feet were the normal temperature. She was clear eyed and running all over me. She wasn't huffy, well, no more huffier than normal and there was a LOT of poop (normal, not green or runny) in her cage.

To vet or not to vet, that is the question.

Re: Now we have a runny nose!

Oh! And the mucus looked clear and thin. That probably matters, too.

Now we have a runny nose!

Should I worry? I woke her up at an abnormal time this morning to showher to a friend. She ate her entire bowl of food last night and the poop on the wheel told me she was active. Her nose was a bit bubbly, but not drippy and I've not heard her sneeze.

The vet is off on Thursday but can see me tomorrow.

Her room was a bit cold last night for no reason that I can figure. The temperature was 72 instead of it's usual 74.5ish and the heat lamp ran all night.

Am I panicking about nothing?
