Re: Wheel Problems

Hiya, so sorry for the late reply! I'm afraid deadlines have taken over my life and this post slipped my mind.

The room is pretty dark, but after trying to cover his RUB and seeing no difference, I switched out his bucket wheel for a flying saucer. He's a little running machine again! So glad.

Incidentally, he also stopped liner-diving as soon as he started wheeling again. I am a very happy Hugo mummy! Cheers very much for your help; it is greatly appreciated!

Re: Wheel Problems

Bucket wheels are good. At night, is it completely dark in the room? My Percy stopped wheeling until I covered the cage with a blanket to make it completely dark. After that he was a wheeling mad man again. Has there been any change with Hugo wheeling since your last post?

Re: Wheel Problems

I'm using a bucket wheel; I got it used off ebay, but it looks a lot like the Carolina Storm Wheels.

Re: Wheel Problems

What kind of wheel are you using? It may be time to switch to a different one or you can try to put flour on the bottom and that will be certain proof that he's using it.

Wheel Problems

Hey guys,

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this topic, but I wasn't sure where else to put it.

A couple of days ago I came out to find that Hugo had run so much on his wheel that he had unscrewed it entirely and it had tilted almost completely forward; I check this wheel EVERY night before I go to bed, so I know it was secure when I last saw it.

Every morning since has found Hugo under the liner under his wheel, with no evidence of him having used the wheel throughout the night. I mean, there's evidence of him running around the cage and having a general balley time, but his wheel is spotless. And as we all know, a clean wheel is an unused wheel.

I've placed mealworms on the wheel (gone in the morning) and I've put him on the wheel and turned it whilst he was standing there, so he could see it wouldn't fall on him. He's fine, there're no injuries whatsoever, but I'm at a loss as to how to convince him that he's safe and that the wheel is as awesome as he remembers.

Any tips?
