Re: Please please give me CHE advice..

New Mommy stress is the worst. I totally understand. And I also just realized that I told you a ten foot dome (10') hahaha! Totally meant ten inches. 150 should be fine so long as you have a thermostat (:

Re: Please please give me CHE advice..

I have an XL super pet cage, a 150W CHE and a 10' dome. We keep the lamp resting right on the cage wire -we don't clamp it to anything. In fact, we have tied it to the top of the cage. The CHE bulb doesn't touch the wire but is about an inch above it due to the dome. The dome doesn't get hot - just warm - and the wire just below the CHE has never ever been hot enough to melt. Lots of people do this and I haven't heard of any issues.
We keep the room 66-68F and I've found that 150W barely keeps the cage warm enough - 76.5 - 78.5F is about the warmest it gets, regardless of the thermostat, and that's with plastic place mats weaved through the bars all the way up to the top on all sides but the front. When this CHE dies, I plan to get a 200W CHE just to ensure that it does stay warm enough, especially during the warmer months when we want to turn the AC down.
My CHE wasn't expensive, as I ordered it online on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/220-230V-150...25108422823447

It has worked just fine so far.
Any Petsmart will carry the domes in the reptile section. I bought a Fluker's 10' clamp lamp - I think I bought it on sale for 15.

Hope this helps! (:

Re: Please please give me CHE advice..

Thank you! that link to that heating thread helped soo much... I dont know how I didnt come across it last night.. I blame the fact it was 3am. haha. Now I understand CHES a lot better!

Still some confusing things.. I have your basic super pet rabbit cage. Some ppl say to get a 10' dome light? I've never see this. Will the small round regular looking lamp type che work? What watt should I get? I'm deciding between 100 and 150.. My room is usually 70 degrees ish.
Some ppl say the 150 is too much and can be too hot.. but some ppl say the 150 heats faster and then it would be cheaper cause it wouldnt have to be on as often.. any final suggestions you guys can give me?
Im not sure if Amazon will ship to canada.. I'm gonna try! I hear it ships fasts and I have two weeks before I get my girl.

I'd post a picture of her but i'm not sure how Shes only 4 weeks.

This sticky might help you. And if it is clamped onto the side of the cage and it is a few inches above the wire then it won't melt anything. There are two thermostats that are frequently used on here and I'm pretty sure they are mentioned in the sticky, if you get one of those you most likely won't have any problems with it malfunctioning because a lot of people have been using it for a long time and haven't had problems.

I use the Zoomed Reptitemp 500 R and it is a tiny bit frustrating to get it set perfect at first but once it is set it stays that way, and there are a lot of forums talking about it on here that you could search.

Please please give me CHE advice..

I'm sorry to ask this, but i've researched like crazy and I cannot wrap my head around this CHE thing for my hedgie. I just put a deposit down on a baby girl, I get her in 2 weeks. I'm trying to get everyting I need set up but its a lot more complicated than I thought.

I have a rabbit cage for her, wire top and sides with a plastic bottom. For heat, I cant do a space heater and I hear bad things about heating pads. So I decided on a CHE. Where on earth do I buy one of these in canada? I looked on the petsmart website but they only have one and it has terrible reviews. I'm looking for a bulb, a light bulb holder, and a thermometer right? Once I set this to 75 it will just turn on and off to keep it at 75? Has anyone had these malfunction or breeak? I'm so scared it will malfunction and go up to like 150 and kill my girl.
And I can clamp this right on top of the wire on the top? It wont melt the coating or anything? I'm trying my hardest to be a good hedgie mom but Im confused about the heat thing. I posted this a couple other places but no one helped me.. I could really use a few links or something.
thanks loves.

ANY other info would be nice as well, I'm always open to hear tips. Ive researched non stop for 4 days.. literally every spare second I have.. but you can never know too much.

thanks!
