Re: Hibernating hedgehog what do I do next

Just wanted to check in and say that all seems to be well. It is cozy warm in her cage. She wheeled and ate all night (I stayed up listening) and she is up eating and exploring about now. I had her out in the evening as usual and she was warm and snuggly as usual and responsive and huffy. Keeping a close eye, but things appear to be okay. Thank you so much again.

Okay thank you so much that is reassuring.
She is pretty normally responsive now - running around under my shirt and burrowing at my arm. Her feet are still cold, but she seems to be okay. She actually just peed on me like her charming self (and then pooed in the litter). I will keep an eye then and take her to the vet if it seems needed. It's very late for her to be out now, but I'm keeping her close to my body heat until she is warm all over.
Thank you thank you thank you.

Glad to hear she's starting to respond more. Once she seems to be back to her normal self she should be fine. If she doesn't seem to go back to being her normal self then she should see the vet. I think that if you just keep her warm and keep an eye on her eating, wheeling and pooping she doesn't need to see a vet. If you notice anything weird or different then she should go to the vet.

Hibernating hedgehog what do I do next

I left Mopsa with my family last night who are usually really good about watching her, but my dad forgot to check her light timer and heat lamp in the morning, and somehow power went out to them, so anyway when I came home her cage was cold and dark - which has never happened beofre. I came home and she was balled up. Tempted with a treat she came out after 20 minutes or so but was freezing cold. She is now under my shirt and warming. She is still cold, but definitely warmer. I can feel her moving a little and breathing, but her spikes are not down and she is not moving a lot. She is kind of wobbling and making little squeaky noises, and she is now huffy when I move, which she was not before, so seems like a good sign. I have read Nancyy's post on hibernation and i know to heat her slowly and increase the temperature in her cage. What I need to know is whether I need to take her to the vet tomorrow. I am perfectly willing to - but I just need to know if it is an emergency to take her first thing- as doing so involves missing an important exam prep session. Again, I am completely prepared to do so, I just want to know what is the most safe for her, once she is warm and responsive again. I know I need to keep her at an increased temperature and be extra careful for the next two weeks and I know there must be more information around the site, but I am a bit too distraught to do serious searching.
Any advice or guidance greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
