GingerSnap2020 Update: I’ve been putting the bag balm on her ears and it’s been looking a bunch better. She doesn’t seen to mind it at all.

Also I did take her to the vet, she suggested the fatty acids which I originally asked about. I gave her a little bit of kale and increased her mealworms because the vet said she was a healthy weight but could even gain a little.

e006073 I suggest you take the hedgehog to the vet. Check its ears and let the doctor determine what caused it. It could be ectoparasites, fungal infections or trauma. Choose different medications for different conditions. In addition to treatment, you can add foods rich in vitamins and unsaturated fatty acids to its diet. Help its skin recover. The feeding environment needs to be kept clean to avoid re-infection. Here is my suggestion. I hope it will be helpful to you.

Emc If it doesn't clear up, has the vet discussed/rule out the possibility of fungal infection?

A fungal infection would cause tattered ears, too. I'd bring it up with the vet if it wasn't discussed already.

nikki That should work.

GingerSnap2020 We have some pet specific bag balm for our frenchie, it’s not scented so I’m gonna try that first

nikki I don't know the brands but ask at your local pharmacy for nipple cream for breast feeding moms. It's unscented and safe to use.

GingerSnap2020 I’ll definitely give that a try, is there any specific brands or anything that you suggest

nikki Tattered ears are usually caused by a build up of dead skin and gunk. Try using some unscented bag balm or human nipple cream on them and the tattered edges should rub off after a few applications.

Hedgehog safe foods with high levels of fatty acids?

I was talking to my vet about quill and her ears, which have gotten tattered. I’ve been adding flax seed oil to her food and she suggested possibly increasing her intake in fatty acids to help her skin. I’ve seen that it’s in mainly seeds and fish, is there any other foods I can feed her?
