Re: Hedgehog allergy?

I was going to ask the same this morning I'm wondering tho do most hedgies show an issue fairly soon or how long feeding a new food before would it then be considered a safe/non issue?

I started Hazel out with bits of scrambled egg...then chicken. Both went well no issues. The veggies via baby food tho HA HA HA! I gave her a wee bit of sweet potatoe each night for a week and she never touched it (she actually pooped on it several times too ha). So I tried butternut squash 2 nights...nope....Peas and turkey 2 nights...nothing.

Finally last night 3rd try with the BN squash and Peas I again gave her a bit of each along with some egg and her chicken...looks like she ate about half of BOTH.

Re: Hedgehog allergy?

I am allergic TO Pirate...its sort of unfortunate and ironic, because I was the one who wanted a hedgehog for so many years! Ha, oh well

Re: Hedgehog allergy?

Like Nancy said, hedgies can be allergic to almost anything. Interestingly, Snarf had exactly the same allergy as I do - to people. I noticed he had a definite reaction whenever a human touched him or attempted to pick him up. He would huff and pop with his quills out. Every person that came along got the same treatment although he did it with me a little less, likely because we had a sensitivity to the same thing.

Re: Hedgehog allergy?

Just like people they can be allergic to anything. Food, bedding, laundry detergent, smoke, perfumes, shampoos, etc.

Allergies like people can be either respiratory as in runny nose and sneezing, or topical which is rash, hives, red skin, sores.

Change in behavior, signs of illness it can vary so there's no right or wrong thing to tell you, just look for something out of the ordinary in their routine.

That's interesting.
What happens when they have a reaction?
Like how will I know if she's allergic?

Hedgehog allergy?

I keep seeing this around and I don't understand.

Can hedgehogs be allergic to things?
If so, how do you know when they have an allergy to something?
