HubertHedgehog Actually, turns out he does have mites. I was holding him today and aw that they were crawling on my shirt! Time for a vet visit!

HubertHedgehog He got a bath today, he has almost stopped scratching, and his skin looks great

HubertHedgehog I'm procrastinating right now. Lol

nikki At 8-19 weeks of age he's just starting to do his major quilling and dry skin is quite common with that. As long as the scratching isn't excessive and there are no bald spots showing I wouldn't worry about it. You can give him an oatmeal bath to help soothe his skin and make quilling easier on him.

What type of wood are the shavings made from?

MotherHoggu Losing quils at his age or quilling is quite normal. How bad is the skin?
08-22-2017 04:50 PM
MotherHoggu Wait, did not read the age. I'd say he's getting skin irritation

MotherHoggu I'd take him to the vet but also have you considered any other types of bedding? Wood bedding can often cause allergies for hogs and skin irritation.

HubertHedgehog If you say it's safer to take him to the vet, I will.

Mites or Quilling?

So Hubert scratches sometimes and has some dry flaky skin he is about 8-10 weeks. If you think it may be mites, I will for sure take him to the vet. Just want some advice before I spend 200$ on vet care, which I have saved up just in case. I just don't want him to get sick. I have wood shaving bedding. He loses 1-3 quills almost every day. Any ideas?
