michelleseager Thank you for the advice! I've heard stories about hedgies going through surgery and it only giving them a few more months and I don't want to put her through that. She's a fussy eater and only eats her kibble and mealies for treats so I'm going to crush her kibble and see if she eats it. So far she isn't behaving any different but I'll look for signs she's not doing to well.

Thanks again!

Lilysmommy Given her age, if I were in this situation, I'd lean towards treating symptoms (manage pain, give softer food that's higher in fat, etc.) & plan on euthanizing her once her quality of life is starting to worsen. I've not had experience with oral tumors specifically, but everything I've read about them is how likely they are to come back. The other issue is if they're in the jaw, removal is going to severely impact quality of life after surgery - it just doesn't seem worth it to give her a few more months, especially if much of that is spent in recovery from surgery. I would spoil and snuggle and enjoy her company for now & prepare to euthanize once it's necessary. I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

Oral Tumour

Hi, my hedgehogs name is Gretchen and she's 5 years old and I took her to the vet today because she's dropped a bit of weight and one side of her mouth was swollen. The vet looked at her and it was for sure a tumour and gave me three options: leave it and see how she does, remove it with surgery or remove it and send it for biopsy. I've read that removing it doesn't really work because most come back and can be quite aggressive. Does anyone have any advice or similar experiences?
