Re: need new cage. which kind? I personally went with a plastic bin. I had a hamster years ago who loved to climb and managed to scale (and subsequently break out on a few occasions) his wire cage. This time I went with something that can't be climbed. Lucky for me too - my little guy likes to climb and made one or two attempts to scale it his first night home. If you have a wire cage with a lid, put one of those alligator binder clips on it to keep it from being popped open (learned that one after the hamster's 2nd break out). If your hedgehog doesn't know how to come down from climbing, I'd be more concerned about her falling and hurting herself. |

Re: need new cage. which kind? You may be able to snag one of those Christmas tree storage bins. There was a pictured posted last year with one and there is a ton of room, the only thing is you may need to modify the lid so the wheel fits in good. They are only out seasonally so you may get lucky and be able to find one, there is a ton of room in there. I just wanted to bring that up since there is only a small window on them and it would be the perfect timing if it was something you were interested in  C & C's are good options too, you'll just want to make sure to make a secure top for it and to get the blocks that are 9 across because the 5 across leave too much space for an escape. I think the recommended height of the coroplast is 8-10in. You could always go with a bigger version of the wire topped, plastic bottomed cage as well. There's a lot of good options out there so it will be fun getting to pick one that works great for you and your hedgie

Re: need new cage. which kind? You have several options when choosing a new cage. You can make a nice cage with sterilite bins, and you can connect different bins too. You can make a C&C cage, or you can go with a wire cage too. I recommend the C&C cages, they are very cheap when compared to store bought cages. I built both my hedgies 2x2 C&C cages and spent only U$32.00 in each. You can look at the Cage Setup thread and see if you like something there. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1860 Good luck!

need new cage. which kind? I have a wire sided cage currently, that has just big enough spaces for my Hedgie, Rosie, to put her little head through. She also likes to wedge herself between her wheel and the side of the cage and shimmy all the way up the cage, but she can't get down! So I need to get a larger cage (so that she cant wedge herself against the side and the wheel) and I am thinking about getting a tub cage. Or Should I get a wire cage just thinner wires? I would really like some recommendations. Thanks! Scott and Rosie |
