Re: How to keep hedgie cool enough in summer?

If you go to any kind of home improvement store, you can find granite/marble/etc. floor tiles for very cheap. I think I got Lily's marble tile for like $0.87 and it was probably 8" x 8" or so - pretty big!

My room gets to 85-86* in the summer...blegh. I used to put cold packs on top of a towel on top of her cage, since cold air sinks. It'd bring the cage down a degree or two, at least, which made me feel a bit better. If you want to put a frozen water bottle inside the cage, I don't see a problem with it - you could wrap it with a towel to keep it from getting everything wet, and to keep the hedgehog from touching it directly.

Sweet! I'll pick up some stone-type thing this weekend. Thanks!

That is perfectly safe to do. You can also put in ceramic tiles that they can splat on. We currently have a tile in all of our boys homes, because our bedroom is also very good at holding onto heat.

I'm planning on putting this in their cages this summer when the heat gets too high! http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.j ... nt=Default

I think a cold water bottle or a cold towel?
Or I think a more effective way without getting the cage wet is those stones... that when you touch are usually always cold even when holding it for a long time
im sure u can find some for cheap a small thin slab you can put in the corner so the hedgehog can lay on and stuff

How to keep hedgie cool enough in summer?

What are some ways to keep hedgies at a comfortable temperature during the summer? My apartment really holds in the heat and it doesn't have great air circulation, so even if I leave the back door open and a fan on it still gets very hot. I don't have air conditioning, unfortunately. The breeder said I could freeze a bottle of water and set it in a corner of the cage during the day and that would help. Is that safe? Any other ideas?
