Pepper's breeder said to get a bottle. She has never had a problem with it and drinks about 1/4 of it every night. I clean it regularly and she has never had a problem.
I put it down pretty low and watch her drink from it, her neck and back are fine!
But to each their own. If everyone else is saying to use a bowl, then I won't argue with them- they have WAY more experience than I do

|FightinFox||I had a bottle at first (before I read that bowls were better), and when I switched to a bowl it seemed like Hector drank more, and I remember to refresh it daily whereas with the bottle I didn't change it enough.|

|Alex in Tampa||When I first got Taco, I had a bottle there just over a day. Also had a water dish because I wasn't sure if he was drinking from it. I finally saw him get water out of it. Then about a minute later he started chewing on it!!! Freaked me the **** out and I yanked it out.|

Hedgehogs can hurt their back or neck by tilting their head upwards towards the bottle well as a bowl is lower and easier for them to drink from. Bottom line: Bottles are bad for hedgehogs
Hope I helped!

Re: just wondering about water bottles or water dishes?
There are numerous reasons.
Hedgehogs necks do not articulate the way a rodents does so drinking from a bottle is an unnatural position for them. Most people who have switched from bottles to bowls have found their hedgehogs drank far more from a bowl than the bottle.
Hedgehogs can break their teeth on the spout as they bite at it trying to get the water. Hedgehog teeth once broken, do not regrow.
There have also been cases of hedgehogs getting their tongues caught between the side of the spout and the ball, which usually resulted in euthanasia because of the damage done to their tongue.
Often people who use bottles don't replace the water daily and fresh water needs to be given daily.
Bottle are much harder to properly clean than bowls. To properly clean a bottle, it should be cleaned out using a bottle brush, as well as a brush in the spout.

just wondering about water bottles or water dishes?
I'm just curious about why so many people dis like water bottles. is it because of the threat of them leaking or is there a health hazard. thanks for looking
