I let her out and she was running around my bed room and scratching and playing with me and she was away from the nest for a long time. She starting to get her appitite back now and she was back in the nest sleeping with her babies. I tried her with kitten food again today be she hasent tried it yes. Also, she seem sto be sitting on the babies, will she hurt them if she sits / accidently steps on them ? thanks |

Re: My little lady just had hoglets ... Worries Are you giving her fresh kibble daily and counting it? Her appetite should be kicking in by now. Am I right that the babies are 3 days old today (Wednesday)? Try giving her more dampened food. |

Re: My little lady just had hoglets ... Worries she was awake this morning and out of the nest, she was walking around and didnt even get mad when i went close to the babies. She would not eat any of her normal food but i did manage to get her to eat a little wet cat food. It looks as if she has eaten or drank nothing again today. Both are right next to her nest and she has not used her litter in what will be the 2nd day. She seems to be feeling fine but i am worried that maybe if she is not eating she may not be producing milk for the babies. I know i am probably just crazy and over thinking way to much but im worried about them,. This is very strange for critter she usually has a fantastic appetite and she LOVES water, i usually have to refill her dish mid-day. also, the i have not heard the babies squeaking as much today but i did life the lid to check and all 4 are moving about. Am i being crazy or should i start tp be worried. ![]() Thanks. |

Re: My little lady just had hoglets ... Worries If she's acting normal, she is probably fine. Sometimes they can have a drop in calcium after birth which makes them lethargic but it sounds like she is fine. Betting she will start eating any time. How close is the dish to the nest box? Moving it closer might help. ![]() |

Re: My little lady just had hoglets ... Worries Thank you all so so much. And to Nancy, she seems to me fine she is moving about in the nest and she walks out to look at me whenever i walk into the room. I have not mixed kitten food her usual diet but i will be sure to pick some up first thing in the morning. Thanks again for the tips/advice. It is GREATLY appreciated. : ) |

Re: My little lady just had hoglets ... Worries One of my first time moms did the same exact thing. I was also worried so I called my mentor and fellow breeder about my concerns. She told me this is sometime normal for first time moms and even longtime moms. For about the first week they eat and drink very little because they are consumed with do their motherly duty. After about two or three days of barely eating my mommy finally came out and gorged on food and water and used the potty then went right back in with her babies. My opinion based on my experience is to just watch and check in on her to see if she has eaten or drank for the next day or so. If after the second day she still hasnt ate or drank you may want to call your vet and discuss the situation with them. I wish you the best of luck I know we worry nonstop with out first time mommies and babies . |

Re: My little lady just had hoglets ... Worries Usually the first day after delivery they don't eat much as they have cleaned up the afterbirth and everything. Count the kibble you give her so you know for certain if she is eating or not. Have you added some kitten food to her mix? It will help give her the extra fat needed for milk production. Have you seen her moving around? Does she seem okay or is she lethargic? |

Re: My little lady just had hoglets ... Worries It might be beneficial to repost this in health or breeding to get more attention. Sorry I can't help otherwise, I'm not experienced with breeding. |
