Takehertothesea It’s like a damaged hair follicle in people. As long as it’s not causing infection or discomfort I would just monitor and see.

Once it’s fully grown out you can see if it will give with a tug or have vet pull it out.

With your hedgie quilling I would give some oatmeal baths and really monitor the dry skin. My hedgie has sensitive skin so I have to give baths more often. She also had a liquid topical antibiotic prescribed to her when she was quilling because she scratched so much she got got some of her quills infected. It was crazy. But we found a happy rhythm soon after and she is fine.

Kalandra From what I can see in the images, it looks like a deformed quill. They happen. It may end up coming in and always looking a bit flat, or you may find that one day you can give it a gentle tug and it pops on out. So long as its an isolated quill or two, the skin doesn't appear to be infected or getting worse, and she doesn't appear to be having any other symptoms of a skin infection, I'd just leave it be and monitor for now.

Ingrown Quill ?

Hi all, Lucy is about 3 months old and well into quilling. I noticed today that she had a halfway ruptured quill that was growing in sideways instead of straight down on her back. It’s red and annoyed looking and had a scab by it, but doesn’t look nasty infected. I’ve included what pictures I could get, I’m sure it was hurting her when I tried to look at it 😞

Do y’all think I should wait and watch or should I take her to vet on Monday?
