Ria Yea a lot if people dont like that wheel deem it as unsafe but cant remember why.
I think that as long as that one bar is on the plastic and he only gets off the side you've taken it off then it should be safe.

Brooke Lancelot Aren't the Kaytee wheels the unsafe ones?

Askeptosaurus You could also get the Kaytee Comfort wheel from Chewy.com. I'm not sure about shipping but it's at least a solid-bottom wheel with an entirely open side.

Brooke Lancelot The bearing will be on the one crossbar we're keeping. It'll be against the cage so it isn't suppose to do any damage to him, right?

Ria The back would make it more secure, and be easier for putting on a bearing, and attaching to the cage but I havent seen anything anywhere about it needing a back.

Brooke Lancelot Yep, already on that. Accept for the back. Must there be a back, or can I just keep it open?

Ria If your putting it on the cage, you'll need a back to the wheel to make it easier, and a bearing to make it spin. So you'll need to get a round circle for the back put a hole in the middle of that for the bearing and fix it securly to the wheel where its not going to come off. And use the bearing to attach it to the cage.

Brooke Lancelot Awesome. The crossbars are coming off. We've got a plan to attach it to the cage itself since I can't just take the crossbars off, because its connected to the wheel and acts as its axis. But putting it on the cage, we'll be changing the weld and the crossbars would've be needed anymore.

Ria If you take the crossbars off it should be fine because they are big problem on the one you already have. If you can get those off its perfectly okay to use.

Brooke Lancelot Oh... Flip. Ok so any holes is a no no for future references? We've actually made a plan for the wheel that I have.
We take out the stand and place it on the cage. The he won't pinch against the crossbars and stand. Or must I still remove the crossbars?
