I got my hedgehog Wednesday and I have decided there is no way I'm using bedding, the stuff is everywhere. I watched a video on YouTube about making cage liners without sewing. All you need is the fleece, a mattress pad and some hemming, which is only a couple dollars. So no need to sew which is only a couple dollars. I don't sew so this should be good for me. I'll post pics when done.
I used Anti-Pill fleece. I washed it in the machine 6 times before it broke down enough for water to absorb and not just “pool” on the surface. I made sure to observe my hedgie to make sure he wasn’t into ripping little fuzz balls to eat!! After having him explore on the fleece a few time with me watching, I felt he was safe. Eating fleece fuzz would be very dangerous! I use puppy pee pads under the fleece and made sure there weren’t any places to burrow under the fleece to make sure eating the pad was not a possibility. I love using the fleece liners!! Anti-pill fleece is a must though.
