This week I'll be getting a CHE and a terrarium light (along with timer) so hopefully I'll be set for the hedgehog "arrival." Almost every post I read about cage set ups included a heat source so I figured I should go ahead and order one. The closet placement for your baby sounds perfect! I just need to move all my clothes out and the hedgie can have his own room.
I actually just got my baby a little over a month ago. Dr. Labonde at Heritage Animal Hospital on the south end of town, and Dr. Guerrera at The Animal Doctor on the north end of town are vets that my breeder's breeder friend recommends. I haven't taken my baby to the vet yet- and hopefully won't have to.
I have 2 heat emitters on the cage (it's about 4 feet long). I'm hoping it will work well in the winter. I just recently put her cage in the closet which helps keep some of the heat in. I have a light hooked up to a timer in there so she is still getting light. It works well also for when I need the light on in the room in the early morning so she can't see much if any of it. And for when she's running at night and if it stinks I can just shut the doors to the closet :P
Hey Tom, I reside in Littleton and I'm a new hedgie mom. Actually, I'll be getting the lil guy next weekend (Oct 19). Who do you use as a vet in the area? I've seen Dr. Paula Bumpers of Canyon View for ferrets in the past and I know she deals with exotics.
Also, in the winters here do you use a heat emitter for your hedgie?
