I hope you're well. I posted a thread but have had no replies yet so thought I would message you as you were so helpful when I was trying to chose a cat food
I gave Erin some chicken on her fourth day of being with me. I think it may have cause some green poop (stupidly I forget to write down exactly when the green poop occurred in my hog log, but I think it was about that time). I was wondering if it would be okay to try giving it to her again as she seemed to really enjoy it, or whether it's unadvised. I wasn't sure if it would cause green poo again or not.
The vet did an x-ray and found two masses. They gave her liquids and foods and she promptly threw up, though they think they might have given her too much too quickly. Right before they were bringing her in for exploratory surgery they saw she'd pooped about 2 inches worth of poop and the masses seemed to be gone. We can still feel two lumps in her abdomen, but the vet thinks they might be her kidneys? She's home with us now, but not really eating much, and is still very restless and acting a bit odd. We haven't seen her poop, but we found her with green/dark foam around her mouth that we think might mean she's eaten poop if poop came out while she was in her igloo. We syringe-fed her a teaspoon of water and a teaspoon of unseasoned pumpkin mixed with water and a bit of olive oil. Is there anything else we should do? Do you think this is just constipation or something more?
I'm so sorry to be bothering you, I just saw that you offered some expert advice on the previous threads concerning hedgehog constipation. Our 2 year old hedgehog Frozone had a very scary vet visit yesterday. She'd been acting strangely for the past three days - up during the day frantically wandering around her cage, not eating very much food or drinking, and pooping strange very thin poops when she did poop. We brought her to the vet after feeling a large lump beneath the skin (there was no visible lump) of her abdomen near her left leg.
Hi Kelsey, I haven't written you directly before, but a post just appeared from someone in Portland Ore whose dog brought her a hedgehog from the backyard, and she needs emergency advice... I told her to get it wrapped, warm, and into a deep box, but I have no idea what else to tell her, can you please help, or contact someone else who can give her more advice?
