Hi. Are you a moderator for the Rescue site? I need to close/remove my post. It was regarding rehoming a HH in north Texas. We found her a home.

Hello Nancy, Could you please give me some advice about handeling the mother after she give birth.
The babies were born on October 13-th, the mother is not sociable at all, and now with youngsters around she is really defending them.
But, since yesterday evening, when i have found her outside the cage, i have reached close to the cage and started to talk with her and in that moment she came closer to me and relaxed to flat position and actually started to closer her eyes.. she wasn't bother about my presence.
I would like to take her outside the cage for 5-10 minutes to check her health and feed her some worms and socialize a little bit. Can i do that ? i haven't topuched her since she gave birth.
The youngsters supose to open their eyes and on Sunday i am planning to start interact with them by taking 1 ouside the cage for a little while. Is dangerous that when i will put back the mother will kill the baby?
Any advice is more then welcomed.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Nancy. I'm so sorry to bug you but I always appreciate the advice you give when I read your posts throughout the forum, and I'm desperate for a breeder opinion on my Pips situation. Rather than write it all again, it's best showcased under "Urgent, chronic UTI" under my handle PrincePip. Thank you so much in advance for any tips (P.S. I'm a former Kingstonian! I sure miss the limestone city dearly...especially Chez Piggy!)

Hi Nancy! I hope you don't mind the message. You seem very knowledgable and experienced, and my post hasn't gotten any answers. I was just wondering, if I have a cold, can my little hedgie catch it? I didn't take her out yesterday, just in case. I called the vet, but the secretary said it should be fine, and I just wish she would have double checked with the vet before immediately answering my question. So, I figured a second opinion wouldn't hurt, plus I'd like to take her out tonight if I can. Thank you!

My hedgehog just had babies this morning. I've been up with her and the breeder I got her from since 2:30am. I heard only one squeaking and eventually two. Does that mean that any others in there are dead? I've only physically seen 2 and they crawled around. I haven't seen any others or heard any.

Hi nancy. I've had my Hedgie Gerald for a couple of weeks now and he's been just fine until recently. I went to pick him up a few days ago and he seemed to be uncomfortable when I picked him up. The next day he seemed just fine when I went to check on him. Until I noticed a pretty good amount of blood in his cage. It wasn't just a few drops it was a path. You could see where he ran around that night. I'm pretty sure it was bloody urine. It was a reddish and brown color but I think the brown was because it had dried out. Anyways I was hoping u had an opinion on what this might be or if you've experienced this with any of your hedgies? I'm thinking it could be stones but how much blood is usually involved in that? I know blood is definitely not a good sign so my mother made a vet app for tomorrow morning.

Hi Nancy, I hope that you don't mind me messaging you. I had been referred over to you from the forums, where I'd posted a question about our hedgehog. She has an oral tumor and as this is our first time having hedgehog's were not experienced with the pros and cons of surgery for them, and if it'll measurably improve their lives or not. Everything I've read online seems to suggest that surgery is just going to cause her pain without increasing her life span or quality, but I wasn't sure and wanted to get some veteran hedgehog owners' advice on this, so my husband and I can make a better educated decision about what is best for her, rather than for us. (Selfishly because we love her so much we'd want to do surgery but...if it's only going to cause her pain and not help her in any way then it's not something we'd want to put her through.) My post is under the health forums though. Thank you so much for any advice you can give and I hope you are having a wonderful week so far. :)

I need help!! Our hedgehog is sick but we don't know what's wrong! He is very lethargic but an even more concerning matter is his skin!! I have never seen it this way! It's very crusty on his belly and his eyes are crusted shut!!

Hey Nancy. I know your a retired breeder, so my assumptions would be is that you would know.
I recently rescued a male hedeghog, i'm not 100% sure of his age, but his previous owners had him about 13 months, so i'm going to try and guess hes about 14-16 months?
Anyways, by his tail, he has a large bump, its under his skin, and doesnt bother him any. He's above and beyond active. Any idea's what it could be? His genitals maybe ? I've never had a male, so i'm not 100% sure. :)
