Default Hedgehog Eye Surgery

Evening! Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction My new hedgie Rowdy came home this weekend and somehow managed to pop his eye out of his socket & irritate it. Took him to the vet and poor little guy had his eye removed. I feel completely horrible!

He's home now and seems to be doing really well. He's more active now than he was with 2 eyes. I was just wondering if there's something I need to do to keep his stitched up eye area "comfortable" so he doesn't scratch it. He's got pain med/antibiotics (which he takes REALLY well!)....possibly warm water if he starts scratching?

Thanks in advance. Rowdy and I appreciate it!

Being on pain meds, hopefully he won't scratch at it. I would leave well enough alone and not use anything on it. If he does start to scratch, talk to your vet. Usually when they bug at the area it's because it hurts, or is getting itchy as it heals. Does he have a wheel? Being bored would also make him more likely to bug at it.

Don't beat yourself up over it. Hedgehogs have very shallow eye sockets and can proptose easily. Missing an eye will not affect him in the least. He is gorgeous.

Nancy he does have a wheel that he runs in. He seems to LOVE it. Lol lots of little Rowdy turds in the wheel. Thanks and will do! The vet I took him to has treated all of my other animals and has had her own hedgehogs in the past. She's really great! She did say if needed I can get him some more pain meds, but he seemed like he didn't even notice the eye was gone so I only got a few doses. Like I said, he seems to be doing great, but if I do notice him scratching I will talk to the vet. Thanks again!

P.S.
Thanks for the compliments! He's a sweet little guy
