Default Eye Gunk

So I woke up this morning and my hedgie seemed to not have his eyes open despite moving about and drinking water. So I take him out and realize that only one of his eyes (the left one) is shut, and he is kind of squeaking as I hold him. At first I though he lost one of his eyes so I take him to the sink and some warm water over the shut eye and his eye opens just a tiny bit, I see that the eye is still there and that his eye was just swollen shut. I'm unsure how this could have happened and if he just scraped his eye or if he has an infection. The eye isn't red or bleeding, it's just puffy and shut. He absolutely refuses to let me try and open it and he seems to be acting normal. I've had him for 4 years and we have a strong bond, he normally is OK with me touching him; even on the face, but now he won't let me near even the front side of him. Should I see a vet or wait a few days?

Sorry for bad english.

If he's not letting you touch the area when he usually lets you that means he's in pain. You need to have it checked out and possibly get antibiotics and pain meds. If it keeps being painful he may end up scratching at the eye and make things worse.
