Default Split nail

Hey guys. I need some advice. I have a 4 year old male hedgehog named Archie. I was cleaning his cage today and as I was inspecting him (to see if he needs a bath, he’s a messy hedgehog) I noticed his nail was split on his back foot. It is brown and attached. It won’t come off. (I didn’t pull on it in fear it would hurt) any advice on what to do? I do not want him getting an infection.

Hm, back nails are tough. Is he walking and running normally? If he is, just trim the nail to a regular size and wait it out. It should heal by itself. If he seems to be in pain, and isn't walking and running normally, I'd take him to the vet. I'm sorry I don't have any other advice, maybe someone else does

I have the same problem, but my hedgehog's, Ginger's, "extra" nail is right beside her middle, I believe. It is not brown, though. More like the color of all her other nails: a clear, pinkish, creamy color. She's asleep in my lap, and she gets grouchy for a minute or two if I wake her up, so I wouldn't be able to check at the moment. She isn't in any pain, and it doesn't bother her, but I suggest to not take out Archie's, as I wouldn't take hers out. It appeared one day, but it doesn't seem to have much, if any, of an impact on her.

But I'm not a professional, and like @Hedgielovehershey said, if Archie seems to be in pain, take him to the vet.
