Default Nail bleeding that won’t stop

I was cutting my hedgehogs nails and I cut it too short. It’s been bleeding for about an hour he seems totally fine he’s been running around I gave him some food I put them back in his cage to try to see if calming down might help the bleeding I don’t have any cornstarch or flour is there anything I can do to help him? First time doing this and totally panicking

First off, dont panic. Its going to seem like it bleeds forever if you dont try to stop it. Get a towel, or tissue, and apply pressure. With dogs, some will even dip the bleeding nail into a bar of bar of soap (run it under the tap, until it becomes moldable) - i dont see why you couldnt do it for a hedgehog.

If you have baking soda, that works too. But at the very least you need to wrap it and apply pressure for a few minutes if you don't use styptic powder.

If it continues to bleeds for hours on end, a vet is needed - its not normal, and there may be an underlying clotting disorder.

When you can too, run to your nearest grocery store and get cornstarch, or your nearest pet shop and get styptic powder - and always have it on hand when youre cutting their nails.
