Default Blood in Urine and Extreme Weight Loss!!

My little hedge has had blood in her pee for a while, but antibiotics for a UTI stopped it for a while. My mom was going to get some more since it continued, but we don’t have much money or time so it’s been frustrating and I’ve been worried.

Recently, I’ve felt as though it’s gotten worse. She lost nearly 70g in the past 10 days which is insane! She just started losing weight and it’s so quickly. She’s eating and drinking, but not as much as she used to. She has what seems like lumps that are a build-up of blood and feces by her genitals, but I couldn’t get it cleaned off when I tried.

Her behavior has been weird as well. She recently started chewing on her puppy pads so I had to take them out. She has also been sitting outside of her little house, which may seem like a good thing, but she used to never come out and sleep in her little house all day.

I’m so worried about her and I have no idea what is going on. My mom will be taking her to the vet in the next few days and hopefully we will be able to get her better, but in the meantime, I’m hoping someone may be able to give me ideas of what’s going on.

The changes in behavior are an indicator of her not feeling well and she needs to see the vet as soon as possible. As for cleaning the stuff off her bottom , try letting her soak in warm water a little bit deeper then a foot bath, just so her bottom stays in the water, for a while and the dirt should loosen up and come off. To much of that build up on her can cause health issues too.

Update: My little hedgie passed tonight. We had a vet appointment scheduled for her tomorrow morning, but it wasn’t soon enough. She had been sick since we got her and my mom is afraid she had uterine cancer or some other complication since we never got her spayed. No vet in my area knows enough about hedgehogs to do much. As much as this sucks and hurts, I’m so glad she isn’t suffering anymore and I was able to love her while she was here. Everyone: give your hedgies love and hugs and lots of treats for me! Hope they are all doing well!
