Re: need new cage. which kind?
I personally went with a plastic bin. I had a hamster years ago who loved to climb and managed to scale (and subsequently break out on a few occasions) his wire cage. This time I went with something that can't be climbed. Lucky for me too - my little guy likes to climb and made one or two attempts to scale it his first night home. If you have a wire cage with a lid, put one of those alligator binder clips on it to keep it from being popped open (learned that one after the hamster's 2nd break out). If your hedgehog doesn't know how to come down from climbing, I'd be more concerned about her falling and hurting herself.
