Default Swollen ear... mites or skin infection?

Our hedgehog is 10 weeks old. We got her from a breeder. At the beginning of this week, she had some dried blood on her ear. We thought it was from scratching since she is quilling at the moment. We noticed she was scratching herself around the ear and on the side at base of her quills. Her skin was not flaky nor seemed too dry. She also had an ingrown quill so we decided to go to the vet since her ear was also beginning to swell.

The vet looked her up, didn't do a skin scratch for mites but told us that that kind of swelling on the ear is usually from mites. She also did an analysis of her poop and it came out negative. The vet prescribed Revolution and gave us a topical spray and some Metacam to sooth pain and itching.

However, even after a few days of treatment, her ear is getting worst. It is swelling even more and the wound opened up a little but there is no pus coming out of it.

We were wondering if it could be something else than mites? If so, what could it be?

Can we put some kind of cream to treat skin infections on her ear like Bactroban or Polysporin?

Here is some pictures of her ear.

Thanks

I would go back to the vet, she made need some antibiotics to help clear that up, babies are prone to staph infections

That looks fungal or bacterial infection. Get that baby to the vet!

Thank you so much for your replies!!

That's what we thought. We'll go back to the vet!

In the mean time, what can we do to help her? Any advices, little tips?

Can we still give her the topic spray that the vet gives us? Or should we put cream like Polysporin or Bectroban on her ear to help it heal?

And also, do you guys know a good veterinarian in Ottawa/Gatineau (Canada) aera. We did check the Veterinarian Listings post, and went to see the one who was recommended on this forum. But I guess maybe we should go elswhere. Even though the vet was very nice, we found that she was quick to get to the conclusion that it was mites...

Yeah it could of originally been from mites and got staph or an infection!!! Or she could be scratching it a lot because it itches from the irritation so it's pretty important to get back to the vet, I would go back to the same vet, and sometimes mites don't show on their body and stay in their ears! And not all the signs show when they get mites so she could be right! I would call her tomorrow, ask her your questions and set up the appointment!
