Default Constant Scratching

I got a year and a half old hedgehog from a friend of a friend almost a month ago. Ever since I got her she has been scratching constantly and I'm not sure why. This past weekend I tried switching her from pine bedding to Kaytee Soft and Cozy since she doesn't scratch quite as much when she's out of her cage. I also gave her a bath for this first time this past weekend with Aveeno baby wash. Her scratching has definitely improved, but she still scratches quite a bit. I have only noticed one lost quill and it had a healthy looking bulb at the end. I try to examine her every night, but it's hard since she doesn't like being picked up and squirms until I put her down. I have not seen any mites, but I might be missing them. She loves to eat, drink, run on her wheel, and play when she's out. So no abnormal behavior. Stool also looks normal. I have not noticed any flakes or dandruff, either. But again, I might be missing it. I've tried researching the problem, but the only symptom I've noticed is the scratching. And maybe the occasional sneeze. Should I be worried? Is a vet visit unavoidable? Or is it just dry skin that can be easily treated at home? I am a very anxious new hedgehog mom and would appreciate any advice.

It sounds like she may have mites. The ball on the end of the quill doesn't mean she doesn't have them. It could also be a bacterial or fungal infection. A vet visit would be best to find out what it is and to have her treated properly. Think how you would feel if you were itchy like that.

Okay, thank you for the advice. I'll take her to the vet to see what's going. I just want her to feel comfortable and be healthy.
