Hi everyone! Im new here, after joining because my little Ginny lost a patch of quills last night (found this morning) with a scab at the end. An awesome user pointed out it might be food, but its the same food shes been on for at least 6 months. help! Im really worried about her. I would like to get her to the vet, but want to know what to do in the meantime. I can see where she lost the patch, its pink but not bleeding. she also had a bit of dry skin flake of her ear yesterday afternoon. She has chronically dry skin that is well moisturized, Mites maybe? Any help is greatly appreciated

It could be mites, or a bacterial infection or fungal infection. Not much you can really do except to make that veterinary appointment for sooner rather than later to get her diagnosed.
Her treatment path will vary greatly depending on what is wrong. For us to try to diagnose her and provide advice may cause the problem to get worse, or cause it to be harder for a veterinarian to diagnose when he does see her. Good luck.

Hi there!
I just went through the same thing with my hedgie and i took him to the vet, although the vet i took him too saw hedgehogs she wasn't an expert, but based on what she saw and what i told her (super dry flaky skin, very irratable etc) she said it sounded like a classic case of mites. She prescribed some revolution and i gave him a dose and hes been WAY better since then. I also give him some flaxseed oil in his food which i think is helping his dry skin. Hope that was informative enough! |
