My boy's hair is thinner along his fur/quill tummy line but it isn't as noticeable as this. However he has lost a lot of hair all behind and around his ears which looks more like this.

How old is he? Has he ever been treated for mites? Does he scratch a lot?

I think I've read before that some can lose their hair behind their ears but not sure about their tummy line. i went to the vet before about my boy's ears (they were also badly tattered) but the vet didn't seem too concerned and couldn't find mites. We did do a mites treatment just in case though, using Revolution. The tattered ears was just an extreme build up and is gradually coming off still! ><

Perhaps it's best to get him checked out if you haven't been yet anyways? Always a good idea to get them looked over once they're settled into their new home

Ok, it's always best to go to the vets anyways and rule out mites or some other skin issues. You could always treat for mites as a preventive measure just make sure they only treat with Revolution a topical treatment. Don't let them give you Ivermectin in any form, it's much stronger and easy for hedgies to overdose, potentially being fatal.

Let us know what the vets says, if they have any other ideas for the hair loss, I'd be interested to know for my boy too

In the meantime, if you need to bath him, try to just give shallow footbaths using water only. No oils or heavy soaps/wash, as these can irrate the skin and cpotentitally ause the hair to fall out even more, until you've discussed it with the vet.

Good luck at the vets!
