Default Dry skin. Help!!

hello everyone! I gave my male hedgehog his first bath a few weeks ago and my female has not had one by me yet but her previous owners have bathed her. Now I know water and soap dries out skin sometimes. He has been itching quite a bit more now that he's had his bath. I'm just curious to see what kinds of products will work to help his skin. Will oatmeal water or Vaseline help? I've heard aveeno Baby oatmeal bath works wonders. Please help me as I am fairly new.

Hello!
You don't want to use soap when you bathe your hedgie. If you think you need something more than water (which is usually fine) then Aveeno Oatmeal Baby Wash (not shampoo) is fine! Anything with "soap" or "shampoo" in the name is probably too harsh.

Depending on the age of your hedgehog, it could be quilling. If the itching is worse (and you just recently got your hedgehog), it would be worth a vet visit to a) establish your hedgie with a vet, and b) rule out mites which can often come home with a new hedgehog. If it is mites, make sure your vet uses Revolution and NOT Ivermectin which can cause serious/fatal reactions in hedgehogs.

If your vet rules out mites, you can put some oatmeal in a sock and swish it in your hedgehogs bath water to help with the itching.

Thank you so much! I'll try just using water from now on and if there are still issues I'll definatly take a trip to the vet.
