Default What is the best shampoo and lotion for hedgehogs?

Is it safe to use baby aveeno oatmeal wash and lotion on a baby hedgehog? And when can a hedgehog get its first bath?

Aveeno Oatmeal Baby Wash is fine for bathing. I wouldn't use lotion on a hedgehog.

I gave my hedgie her first bath at about 10 weeks old, maybe a little older, shortly after I got her and she was a mess. Lol. Put only an inch or so of water in the sink, and test the water to make sure it isn't too hot or too cool. Make sure you lower your hedgehog in butt first, so it feels the water and knows it is coming, because you don't want your hedgie to duck it's head into the water. Go slow, and you should be fine.

Here is a great sticky with more info on bathing:

Yes that soap is safe to use during a bath but hedgies don't generally need to be washed with soap often. At most once a month or their skin will dry out from too much washing. They don't get too dirty so it's not a big deal. I would not use a lotion but if you want something to moisturize your hedgehog's skin you can use a couple drops of coconut oil or flaxseed oil. How old is your hedgehog? I think 7 weeks or older would be fine as long as your baby is comfortable and the water isn't deep. I just fill the sink or a plastic tub with about an inch of water or only up to Poppy's tummy. Good luck.
