Default Mites from one animal to another

Hi,

On Friday I will be rescuing a pair of dwarf hamsters. I haven't had a chance to personally check it out, but the hamsters have been pulling out their own fur around their legs, so it is possibly a case of mites. (Or stress, or bedding allergies, etc.)

Is there any way I can ensure that Quinne (my hedgehog) does not get the potential mites? I'm definitely planning to wash my hands after handling the hamsters, but other than that is there any thing I can do?

Also...Out of curiosity, is there any way to possibly treat the hamster's mites from home, or will they definitely need a vet visit? Just curious if there are any medications out there.

Thanks!

Majority of mites are host-specific.
But mammalian mites can transfer interchangeably that is we try to limit our hedgies contact with other susceptible furry animals (dogs, cats, etc.)

Just wash your hamster's home with water, soap and bleach. Rinse and dry well on a regular basis. You can also move your hamser cage somewhere away from where your hedgehog is, like another room
