Default Dry flaky skin

So for a few weeks my albino ap hedgie has been losing quills (quite a lot) , they are growing back in but this seems a fairly painful process for her. There aren't really any bald patches but then I noticed the bottoms of the quills start to get a yellow crust on , we want to the vet who took a quill to look at under the microscope and said she couldn't see anything but to keep an eye on her. A week on and there's not much yellow crud left but she has very very dry skin , in the attached photo she rolled on a dark blanket for a few seconds and all that skin flaked off. I'm wondering if vet should have done a skin scrape? If it's worth getting a second opinion from another vet or if this is fairly normal for hedgies ? We've tried oatmeal baths and flax seed oil . poor Lils

The yellow crud might be from the flaxseed oil. I would stop the oil & head back to the vet for a skin scrape. It's possible it's a fungal infection & if so, oil can make it worse instead of helping.
