Default De-wormer?

Yesterday I took my 3 month old to the vet to see if he was healthy and doing okay. She said he was fine, and told me he just had very dry skin and gave him a deworming shot. I told her I have been noticing him scratch himself a lot, especially when active. I'm not sure if he has mites, how can I know for sure? The vet never told me if he had any or not, so I'm a bit confused. What kind of oil can I put in his bath water to help with the dryness?

You need to call your vet and ask what the diagnosis was since she didn't really tell you and ask what kind of medication was given, you are your pet's advocate. There are a lot of vets that are not up to date with the right treatments for hedgehogs, for example, a lot still use Ivermectin which is a worm medication for dogs and can be lethal on hedgehogs. Never let a vet inject your hedgie with anything if you don't know if it's safe.

Hedgehogs don't need to be dewormed like a cat or dog. It should only be done if worms were found in a fecal smear.
