Default Hedgehog seems to be balding in the facial area

Hi guys!
I'm the proud owner of a 8/9 month old hedgie named Sniffles. He's a bit grumpy because of quilling right now (it's been a long quilling, he's been losing quills for about a month! They've been growing back fine and he's changing colour slightly, poor baby) but he seems perfectly normal except for his face. He's started losing the fur on his face, just below where his quills start, and his skin seems dry and flaky. The rest of his body seems normal, and he's bright eyed and wet nosed. He has recently been changed from paper pellet bedding to fleece, but his blankets are washed in plain water and changed every other day (unless he's peed or pooed out of his litter tray) so I can't see a problem there. He's been having a bit too much flaxseed oil lately, he's been having a capsule a day (my mum was feeding him while I moved house! He hasn't been moved yet, he's coming when I move in properly) but I can't find anything about that causing hair loss. Does anyone have any ideas about what's wrong? The first image is a picture of him now, the second how he usually looks.

I would wonder if there's some sort of skin infection. I would take him to the vet to get that checked out. Beyond that I can't think of any other things specifically that would cause hair loss. There's no bald spots in the quills, right? It's just on his face? What about his belly?

His quills and belly are both normal. It's strange, the photos were taken literally a week apart. I think a vet trip is in order myself, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something super obvious!

Is there anything he could be rubbing it against?

I was wondering if he rubbed it off against something too. Does he have a toilet paper tube in his cage by any chance or anything else he can stick his face into?
