Default Got water in nose during bath...

Harry got a but of water in his nose during a bath two days ago. He swam down to the deep end of the tub which was too deep for him and then his face submerged. I pulled him out immediately and he puffed out the water a bit.

Today and yesterday he makes odd noises in his sleep, I'm not sure if they're sneezes or not. Last night he ate all his food as usual but didn't run (though he has been known to take nights off every now and then). I cant tell if he has a runny nose because he licks it like he usually does. I have a cold which I dont think could transfer but the timing is so weird I had to mention it.

I would like to take him to the vet only problem is idk which to go to. I went to Angell Memorial for a constipation issue last month and I didn't really feel like she knew what she was talking about. I asked if laxatives were necessary or is pumpkin would be fine and she said she never heard of a hedgehog eating pumpkin. Plus she did an X-ray which was really unnecessary because she didn't even try to palpate him (Harry was a good boy the whole time too). $400 for the whole visit -_- So now idk which vet to go to. I've looked on lists but no one has explicit hedgehog experience so I'd like to know what your vet experiences are.

Do you guys think this is a URI or just an irritated nose? And do you have any recommendations for a vet in the eastern MA area or Rhode Island?

It's been a week since this happened and Harry hasn't shown any symptoms. I dunno what to do. Just bumping hoping someone will see this and have advice.

Im no expert at all but Im gonna try to help you ! First, 400$ is quite much for a vet visit, Maybe you could call every vet in your area to know if one in particular is an exotic specialist and knows well about hedgehogs! As for the URI, I once though my boy had one because he was sneezing from time to time and licking his nose a lot but not everyday but the vet couldn't do anything, he didn't seem to show any symptoms and was still running on his wheel and eating normally. So I wouldn't worry too much if he has the same routine as before and if he doesn't show any symptoms of a URI anymore.

Hope that helps a bit :/

Oh, and human's colds can't transfer to hedgies and I don't think having water in his nose could cause a uri, just make sure you dry him up and keep him warm enough

I'm sorry your thread got missed! Water in the nose can sometimes cause a URI, so I'm glad you've been keeping an eye on him. If it's been a week with no symptoms, I would say he's probably fine.

Thanks for the advice guys! Harry seems to be pretty normals so I also think it was prob just an irritation and he's fine but I'll keep keepin an eye on him. It's great to hear from experienced owners since Harry's my first and I feel like I'm doing everything wrong XD thanks again
