Default my new hedgie may have a uri?

I lost my last hedgehog to a uri in march, my boyfriend and i were both devastated -we went away for four days and unfortunately by the time we got back on sunday night at 1130 and realized he was wheezing we could not do anything till monday

so we finally were able to go pick up a new hedgie happy about our decision and what not, however we got her wednesday and i noticed some eye goo but didn't think anything of it since we had just woken her up, i work overnights and last night was my first night off to be able to watch her up in action, she barely moved around last night which got me thinking what the **** is going on, this morning i picked her up checking her out and she had what looked to be a booger so i am looking for some opinions on what could be going on with my new little babe

they said shes about ten weeks old, and my boyfriend and i both love her to death already

-we called a vet who looks at exotics/hedgehogs and the vet is not in till monday, so i have an appointment at 11:15am monday morning

-we called the place we got the hedgehog from and the guy said "sometimes when you move them to a new home or around that they can get an upset stomach as far as a little cold" he said to try wet tail drops because they are vitamin c supplement for hamsters and gerbils, but hedgehogs can benefit as well

- he also suggested to pick up some tetracyclin, which is a fish medicine and it will most likely fix the cold - he said he has personally recommended this treatment before and it has been successful

anyone every heard of this? should i try it?

I wouldn't use the wet tail drops of the fish antibiotic. They may not be safe for your hedgehog and might not even be the right antibiotic to treat what ever he has. It could just mask the symptoms while he continues to get worse. Just keep an eye on him, keep him warm and make sure he stays hydrated.

To add to what Nikki said, make certain he is eating well and it would be a good idea to be prepared to syringe feed him.

Thanks guys (: we've been keeping an eye on her all day I had her next to me with a normal heating pad earlier along with putting the heat mat under her tank on, I'm just hoping things stay this way till Monday morning - I am super nervous about her and will probably be till we get to the vet ):

What would be a good food to syringe feed her? I counted out twenty pellets of her food earlier to see if she touches it at all

Is she in a glass tank or aquarium for a cage? If so, that could be a contributing factor to URIs - tanks are not a good cage option for hedgehogs since they hold in moisture & don't have good air flow at all (even if a screen is used for the top or no top is on it).

Are you only using a heating pad for heating? That's another thing that could contribute - heating pads aren't a good main source of heat. They only heat the floor of part of the cage (since you also shouldn't have one under all of the cage), and if you have it under where they sleep, that means they're going from a nice warm bed, to a cooler outer environment every night - that can cause hibernation attempts and/or URIs.
