Default Discharge

Ok so I know this is super stupid of me, and it’s a form of neglect, I know, and I feel bad, really bad, but;
Igor was at a vet I think in October last year, and after I finished his antibiotics, I saw the symptoms didn’t go away. (URI symptoms)

Now I said I will take him to the vet again to get another type of antibiotic for a longer period of time, but money was tight. Seeing as we live in a country where everything just gets more expensive, and our salaries stay the same, it’s difficult to keep up financially.

I had to give the money I earned for the December vacation to my mom completely, because we wouldn’t have had money for food. So now I talked to my mom about getting Igor to a vet at the end of the month, and she said she’ll try her best to keep money out for that.

I just saw a new symptom appear, which is discharge from the eye. I’m so scared right now. I know I neglected him, I know I should’ve gotten him to the vet sooner, it was just the matter of not having money.

Will antibiotics still work? Or has it evolved into something worse?

His current symptoms hasn’t changed, the eye discharge just appeared.
He has a runny nose, wheezy breathing, and licks his nose constantly. He doesn’t sneeze a lot, but the nose and now discharge from the eye isn’t normal.

I might also be imagining him getting lethargic, I don’t know. I don’t know if it’s him being lethargic or just being himself naturally. His running has went down, but it also became cold here over the past couple of days. So maybe the cold is affecting it?

For the cold, I put in a warm water bottle, close all the windows in my room, give him an extra blanket and throw a blanket over his cage to keep wind or cold air out.

I’m just scared. And I feel terrible..

I believe - might be wrong - that eye discharge isnt to do with respiratory problems.

Do your vets have no like financial plan that could help? Eye issues can become bad really fast (from what I have seen with others)

But the eye issue you have now, is likely not related to the respiratory issue.

I don't get much money, but what I do is save up like 5-10 a month into an ISA so that I can build up vet money. If you can you might wanna start doing this.

It’s not? We do have vet medical insurance, and I talked to my mom about it before and she refused. So...

At this moment I’m not getting any money. I will find myself a part time job after we moved. And start saving money for vets that way.

What might eye discharge be related to?

What kind of discharge is it?

I've never really had any eye issues with Holly (luckily) so I'm not really sure.

I've never seen any hogs with eye discharge that have respiratory issues - but that doesnt mean its not possible.

The only time I've heard of it was a hog who had an eye infection.

His eyes look perfectly fine. There was just a small line of, idk what. Maybe it wasn’t even eye discharge. Is it possible for hedgies to get ‘sleep’ in their eyes? Like us humans?

I'm not really sure, I think if they are having a really good sleep like a dog gets it sometimes if they have has a really good sleep.
I dont think its very common. Keep an eye on it.

Someone with more experience should be able to help more when/if they see it.

There’s nothing there today. Hopefully it was just a one time thing. Still taking him to the vet though. I want this URI treated.
