Exclamation sneezing and nose licking, does it always mean a URI?

im finding it VERY difficult to distinguish whether or not i need to take wylie into the vet for a possible URI after reading previous posts in this thread and the sneezing sticky. he has been sneezing a fair bit, which i know is not a good sign. sneezing is my main concern. several other symptoms:

-he smacks his lips often, like hes tasting something in the air, which im not sure is normal hedgie behavior
-wet nose, a little bit runny
-licking his nose (he's always done this but it seems a tad bit more frequent)
-sneezing (id say 4-5 sneezes a day that i can hear when im with him, possibly more at night)
-sometimes a wheezy/huffy noise (slightly different than his normal grumpy huffs) that ive heard maybe twice.
-skin under his nose looks red and a little puffy although i have seen other hedgehogs that have this naturally.

its enough evidence for me to be worried, but he is also eating/drinking/pooping/peeing/running as normal. no changes to how he behaves except he has been slightly more grumpy but i did just give him a full bath the other day with aveeno baby oatmeal creamy wash for the first time in a couple months and he HATES when i wash him with soap and is usually grumpy for 2-3 days after. could it be a reaction to the natural spray i use to clean his wheel? or possibly to my detergent on my clothes? or lotions/perfumes/shampoo scents that i have on my body?

im leaning very strongly to a vet appointment as i know URI's can be serious for hedgies but i have a tendency to be a nervous owner and cry wolf over every tiny scratch and sneeze. i would just like some opinions on this.

and if i do discover he has a URI, what can i expect? is it an oral medication, an injection, a cream, a spray? are there any medications i should avoid at the vet's office (like ivermectin for mites)

anyone who has had experience with this i would love to hear from you! feeling very nervous, i do not like to hear him sneeze... sorry for the information overload!!

i have decided to take wylie to the vet today as i have been doing a lot of research on URI's and believe he may have one. as far as URI's go id still like to know what to expect for treatment if the vet does diagnose him. any feedback is helpful!

Glad you're taking him in to be checked out! If he does have a URI, the vet will likely prescribe oral antibiotics to give once or twice a day.
