Hi. I adopted my 6 week old Poppy on Dec. 17, so last Saturday. Everything is going well but I have noticed that since the day I brought her home she has been sneezing occasionally and licking her nose frequently. I read in the Sneezing sticky that some hedgies sneeze because they are adjusting to their new home and smells. I am not sure if Poppy is still adjusting to her new home or if this an early sign of a URI. I wash all her fleece and clean her wheel with scent free products so I don't think it is an allergy to a smell. She may be smelling the Christmas tree that is in the same room as her cage but I am not sure as she still sneezes when I take her in another room to play. She does not have any liquids coming out of her nose but she does lick it a lot. I will schedule a vet appt. if needed, I just wanted your thoughts first. Thank you! P.s. sorry for posting so much these past few days! I have work off for Christmas so my time is spent either with Poppy, on here, or both!!! https://www.hedgehogcentral.com/forum...lies/icon1.gif

If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it! I am becoming worried...

How frequently is Poppy sneezing? Has Poppy been licking her nose that frequently ever since she came home or recently she started licking her nose more often?

She sneezes mostly when she eats but sometimes when I take her out to play, too. This has been going on since I brought her home. :(

She is most likely still adjusting. If her nose licking habits were like that originally then I wouldn't worry. Does she lick her nose after sneezing?

Thank you for all your help! I have only had her for a week so it makes sense that she's still adjusting. She does not lick her nose after she sneezes. The licking seems pretty random. When she licks does it mean she is hungry? The food I give her is some the breeder gave me so she should be used to the smell of her food. Any guess at why she mainly sneezes while she eats and how long this will continue? Thanks again!!! :)

Hedgies lick their noses to clean it. It's hard to say it could be the Christmas tree scent too. Just wait it out and see a bit. She doesn't have any discharge when she's sneezing, right?

Nope, no discharge. I am glad this is normal. Thanks! Sometimes I put drops of coconut oil in her food to help with her dry skin while quilling. Do you think the oil is bothering her? I have put it in her bath before too but she was fine.

It could be the oil that is being put into the food. Make sure that if any discharge or irregular breathing sounds is to arise take to the vet ASAP. Try not putting in the oil in the food and see if it makes a difference.
