Unhappy Baby died?

I got a phone call today saying that the 3 week old hedgehog I had reserved had unfortunately passed away. I am extremely bummed out. She said that they fell ill and she brought them to the vet. She did not tell me the specifics other than she believed she suffocated from the discharge coming from her nose. Is this common?

It's not really common for babies to die but it does happen. It seems strange though because hedgehogs can breath through their mouths if they are unable to breath through their nose.

I'm so sorry to hear the bad news.

I am sorry to hear the baby passed away. If there was a lot of discharge and it trickled down her throat she could have suffocated so it doesn't sound too strange to me.

She is a very good breeder and answered all of my questions and I was able to pick out a new hedgehog today. I visited them and she explained to me that the vet told her it was a virus and there wasn't much they could do for them other than wait it out. Of the 5 babies that the mother had, only one is alive now and is very tiny.
