Default Update

So today I took the little guy to a different vet because I wanted a second opinion on things and because my current vet has been very standoffish lately. Liam was pretty annoyed at first and wanted nothing to do with it lol. His new vet took a look at his records as well as his xrays, and when he came back these were his words, "If I'm being honest with you, these xrays look horrible and I don't know how he's alive right now." Words a mother never wants to hear. We talked a little on his situation and possible new treatment plans and thought the best option would be to perform a culture (something he was willing to do, unlike Liam's previous vet). Liam was sedated and the swab was performed and the results have been sent to a lab. Now we have to wait until Monday/Tuesday to get the results back from the lab and start him on new medicine (if at all possible ). I'll update again when I hear from his vet and let you guys know what he's found. I feel so bad for my baby boy because he's been through so much for so long and the thing I want most in the world is for him to be healthy and happy, and I feel as if I just haven't done enough for him and it sucks when something is so out of your hands. Just hoping for the best

Don't beat yourself up over it, it sucks when you do everything you can for your hedgehog baby but still feel like it's not enough, sending lots of love and good vibes your guys way! I hope everything goes well and you can get him happy and healthy <3

I'm feeling really good about this switch! It sounds like this vet wants to help! I hope you're finally able to get down to the bottom of all this nonsense. Keep us posted

On one hand, reading those words, I'm thinking, "Oh no!" because it seemed like he was improving. On the other, I wonder if those words illustrate why your old vet has been stand-offish. Hopefully, this is the change Liam needs!

Okay, so I just got the call from the vet and was told that what Liam has is an abnormally high amount of yeast as well as bacteria in his lungs (didn't specify much just that), and that he would put Liam on Baytril for a few months along with a new anti fungal which is specifically made to kill the yeast (I forgot the name of it, but when I go to pick up his meds tomorrow I'll let you guys know). Feeling pretty hopeful about this one!! Like they always say, seventh times the charm!! He's also getting a new CSBW (courtesy to one of the amazing members on this forum) and I'm so looking forward to being able to give it to him as a "glad you're feeling better" present!!!

I can't wait to tell LittleDude when he wakes up tomorrow! I wish I'd made it to this thread before he went to bed. His prayers tonight included, "God bless Mommy, Daddy, O****, PawPaw, Gammoo, Lucky, Fitzgerald, Frigga, Liam, and all the rest of my family and friends."

The power of a culture & sensitivity test. I'm so glad you finally got a vet that would do a swab and test it. Now here is hoping that after a nice long run of medicine things finally improve and he will be "right as rain" again.
