Default Grinding teeth?

I heard Pig making a sound almost like he was grinding his teeth. It was a similar sound (but a lot more intense) to his usual sleep-suckling or boy time lip smacking, plus he was just calmly walking around and hadn't eaten anything recently.

Someone suggested he may be grinding his teeth. Is this possible? Why might he be doing it and what can I do to stop/prevent it?

Ok I just caught him doing it again and got a closeup look. He's definitely grinding his teeth! What do I do?

I have no idea. I tried google-searching on pets grinding their teeth, and apparently with cats its a sign of dental pain? Is he showing any signs of mouth-pain when chomping his kibble? Can you see anything going on?

Nope, he's fat and happy like always. Eating and drinking just fine, normal attitude, not irritable. The first time I heard him do it he was roaming around my bed and the second time he was half-asleep. The second time I put my finger up to his mouth to see if I could get a look but he stopped before I saw anything.

Now I can't help but think that the sleep-chewing I hear is actually sleep grinding, and I just haven't heard the grinding before because he's usually bundled up in my shirt and it muffles the sound.

I don't know if this is relevant, but I used to have a ferret who began grinding her teeth when she was eating. Poor thing, it turned out she had an ulcer! But like I said, it was usually while she was eating. Maybe your little guy just needs a hedgie-sized mouth guard. I hope someone comes along who has a little more knowledge about it!
