Default Checking Hedgie’s Mouth

Hi everyone, I still haven’t been able to figure out the best way to regularly check my hedgie’s mouth. The vet told me during her first check up after I got her to try and use mealworms to check her mouth, but so far she’s had a love/hate with them and last I tried she waits until I give up with the tweezers to eat one. How do you all check your little ones mouths?

I got off her eating to see if there any signs of things being wrong, its easier than trying to physically look regularly, I only try to look if I suspect something is wrong. Thats what I was told to do anyway.

You can use cotton buds to help if you really want.

I usually have someone hold Coco, and then just pull her gums back like you'd check a dogs teeth. A little harder on such a small animal, but it helps when you have a co-operative hedgehog.

It is harder when you want to check inside of their mouth. But the same process; it helps when you have someone hold them, and just gently pry their jaw open. You wont get a vert thorough look but you'll get a quick enough glance. If anything was wrong, you'd know by their eating habits anyway; they dont tend to hide pain in their molars very well and you'll notice them either wincing when they eat, eating less, or even going off feed entirely.
