Hi everyone,
Hemingway is about 3 1/2 years old, and I recently took him to the vet because his face was swelling. The vet removed some teeth and gave me antibiotics in case it was an abscess, but the swelling never went down so I took him back. She confirmed it was a tumor and said that he probably only has a few weeks left due to how aggressive they tend to be.. She gave me pain meds because it is obviously uncomfortable for him (he rubs his face in the corner of his cage occasionally, especially while he's eating). She also told me that it's possible for it to rupture if it gets too large.
He's still hungry and still very active. He's not interested in his dry cat food anymore, so I just feed him chicken and mixed veggie baby food twice a day with his medicine mixed in. He lost some weight because his mouth was hurting, but he's gained it back since he's started eating baby food.
He's always been very grouchy, so I can't really use grumpiness to gauge his discomfort.
Does anyone have advice for knowing when it's time to take him to be put down? I don't want him to hurt, but I don't want to do anything too early if he's still enjoying life.. The vet told me it's time when he stops eating. No telling how long that will be, though. I don't want to make him go through the thing rupturing. Thanks in advance.
