Post dental surgery concerns

I took Milton (3yrs old) into the vet a c week ago due to a swollen jaw and decreased eating and drinking. I was afraid it was oral cancer but he ended up just being diagnosed with two loose teeth and a tooth infection. Since then he has been on antibiotics and pain killers and has been eating a little. I thought he was getting better but he's behavior is concerning me. In the past two mornings he has barely picked up his nose from the ground to take meds even if the ground was wet. This evening I went to clean out his mouth with water and syringe and his mouth started bleeding, not profusely but enough that it took a few syringes of water to stop it and he seems a bit gag-y. I'm going to try and get him into the vet tomorrow, but is there anything I can do in the meantime?
